Hai and assalamualaikum to all my bloggers, nice to see you again. Are you excited about this week's post? Yeah as you see on the title is the flipped classroom. Do you know from the past may be about 2 years before I had been using by flipped classroom either only for only one class or more than for every semester. Now I would like to tell you about the flipped classroom and what the most probably platform that I usually use and loved for my studies. First and foremost, let me tell you what is the meaning of the flipped classroom?
What is Flipped Classroom?
The flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and also a type of "Blended Learning" which is the focus to increase student engagement and learning by having students complete readings at home and work on live problem-solving during class time. it is like consists the students by completing direct instruction such as viewing a lecture online, before the in-class discussion of the material.
This flipped classroom is made by the lecturer for the students to see the material beforehand, also like first-exposure learning. That is why students can learn the concepts at their own pace. Moreover, students can focus more on participating in class because they had known the syllabus earlier than the lecturer is teaching. As you know the principal goals of the flipping classroom are as below :
- To make the classroom an active learning environment
- To enable students to learn at their own pace
- To give the instructor more time to teach each student individually rather than the class as a whole.
Somehow, there are four pillars of the 'FLIP' classroom method which is :
- Flexible Learning Environment :It is one of the hallmarks of a flipped learning classroom is that it provides fluid timelines for student work and comprehension. Instructors should adjust to the pace of their students in class.
- Learning Culture :Instructors foster a rich environment that allows students to delve further into topics and provides them with opportunities for self-reflection and hands-on activities.
- Intentional Content :Instructors decide ahead of time what direct instruction to pair with in-class activities. Students should feel challenged but able to understand the material on their own, a balance that can take time for the instructor to master.
- Professional Educator :Monitoring students during lessons and offering feedback ensures no gaps in student knowledge are being created with the flipped classroom model.
How to make it works for students?
Do you know what exactly it is called flip? It is because the opposite way from the normal classroom used to be which is the students will take chance to study beforehand their lecturer teach them in the next class. This flipped classroom does not count that either your class will be on tomorrow, next week on in the same day but not now.
So, as for the preparation, you will know what your lecturer wants to teach you and you will understand more than anyone else if you are an expert in the flip classroom. Moreover, you also will not waste your time on doing and understanding the topic more than 2 times because you will ask your lecturer when you do not understand during flipped class.
Besides, the flipped classroom is a technique that focuses on providing students with learning material in the form of pre-recorded lectures, videos, presentations, tutorials, and other web-based material before the actual class.
What do I use for this flipped classroom?
For your information, there are many types of platforms, applications, websites and so on that you can use for teaching and learning. As for me, I have usually used the Youtube platform and also can prefer one other platform that I used to join which is MCplus online tuition. It is because I am majoring in Mathematics that need to be more understanding about math problems.
Firstly, YouTube is the best platform for searching for calculations. It is because whatever I want to search about the syllabus, it always appears in my current search and mostly will make me understand more about math especially in maple application that needs to learn individually without lecturer because it is the assignments. Sometimes, it will have the exact question that you search, so it will be more comfortable for me in searching on YouTube because it will make my works easier. Other than that, my math lecturer also uses the YouTube link and gives it to us before the class started and need to watch it before the class to make sure we understand and when she makes Google Meets, we all just need to be more understanding about the topic.
Besides, for me, it will save more time for my lecturer and also for me. It is because you can do your exercise during class hours. After all, you have been teaching in the video. Then, we will not study a couple of times instead of just make more exercise frequently. Yes I know somehow, some of the students take advantage not to study earlier but at the same time, they don't think that this type of classroom will make them save their time.
Other than that, I think more subjects have tutorials on YouTube because YouTube there is a variety of subjects there. You just need to search for what you want not other than your syllabus. 😏
So now we move to the MC PLUS online tuition. Yes, I know that you might think that you need to enter the class and pay for the tuition. But, amazingly nope you can enter the class for free but with some condition and also some other time that they provide for the students. Anyway, you just need to subscribe to the apps either on pc or on your phone because they also have apps in the apps store.
This is the front page of their website. It looks amazing, right? It is because this is the largest online tuition in Malaysia that makes almost all their students achieve their SPM with flying colors. Maybe you think that this tuition is just for the students from standard 4 until form 5. But don't worry that you can access their tutor's social media because they also posted some tips that are relevant for your syllabus.
Conclusion
Nevertheless, the flipped classroom is a great way to learn because the methods can provide many benefits to students also for the instructors as well as school systems. The primary benefit of the flipped classroom is enabling the students to take charge of their learning process meanwhile the traditional classroom, students must sit quietly during the presentation of the lesson. Moreover, it also can include more interaction time between students and instructors, make better test scores, and less stress for students.
Last but not least, I hope that many instructors will use this flipped classroom because nowadays the student is less attracted to the online class live session because or face-to-face. It is because the students had been home up until 2 years. I also hope that all the instructors and students can be actively engaged with the new norma in technologies in teaching and learning.
That's all from for mow. Hope you enjoy this blog and see you again in the next post. See you soon maybe next week? See you guys in the next one. Keep smiling, stay positive, and Hidup Kena Chill. Bye! 😉
