Week 5 : Online learning ?

What is Online Learning?

Online learning is defined as the new age of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) that uses network technologies to deliver teaching and learning also interaction for sense-making and development of understanding and knowledge. First and foremost, we have two types of online learning :
  • Open access
For open access, it allows virtually anyone with an internet browser to view the course material. It also does not require interaction with the host. Besides, the material also covered can range from very specific instructions to university-level courses. Then, it can remove the barriers to advanced knowledge and allow anyone with an interest to learn.
  • Restricted access
For restricted access, it is used to limit classes only for registered students. For example, the host just makes the close class for their students only. It also offers instructor interaction and typically the method used by the courses is requires grades upon completion.

How does it start?

Hmm, I think this Online Learning had been started a long time ago. But, during this pandemic Covid-19, is 100% used for all the types of students in the world. So, from that, I think we have a lot of types of learning such as online distance learning, hybrid learning, and face-to-face learning. Moreover, this online learning is delivered via an internet connection. If you do not have an internet connection, you cannot enter the class. This is what the interior students feel when they cannot enter the class, discussion group, do the quiz, test and also submit the assignment online.

What this means a lot to me?

Started lockdown during March 2019, I had to learn how this online learning works and I thought that I was in semester four. Truly to tell, I'm a person that really doesn't know how to use new things online or new platforms during the class. Thank God that a week before I rush to go home before lockdown, the class has started online and my friends also my classmates help me a lot during that time. After the lockdown and I was also at home, this would make me really stress to do all the work alone also for the group assignments alone.

Sometimes, yes I still video call with the groupmates but it is all not the same as face-to-face works because sometimes I need to understand the works clearly. After a few weeks, I started slowly to adapt to the environment of online learning even though it is really hard when you were the only one who are studying high-level educations at home. At the time where we were started with the open book test, quizzes, and so on, it was really awkward because before this we need to remember and memorize all the things to take the test. While via online, yes you can open a book but do you really think that the question is copied and pasted from the book? Definitely not and it was all the HOTS questions.

Sometimes yes I think this is a great experience for me and all the students out there to explore this type of learning but don't you think it is too much when you had just needed to face this for almost 2 years. I think I had enough tired to face this online learning because when you push yourself and then burn out, I don't think I will have the mood to study for myself but it just studies to pass the exam. But, what can I say if this pandemic just doesn't disappear away while the cases are still ups and downs.

From that, I just finished my final year of Diploma without a proper goodbye with my classmates 😭 and then I apply for 'penerapan uitm' and straight away continued for my Degree with the new classmates that I had never met. It is really challenging for me to talk with them via Whatsapps because we never met. Deep down in my heart, this affects me so much because I really had a hard time with the new classmates and also the lecturers. Somehow, I become more introverted now when the people that I had never met but need to do work together.

Because of this online learning during a pandemic, yeah I thought that it still has brought positive and negative effects to me. Meanwhile, I don't know it will affect differently to others. For example, for the past 2 years, I think I had much time to adapt more to this online learning because until now I had been for 4 semesters via online. Moreover, I can manage well with all my assignments, quizzes, test even though it really makes a hard time for me. Yeah, sure I can ensure that it was a burden until I think want to burn out but at the same time I need to finish this study whatsoever happens. So, as a responsible student, I will finish my Degree no matter what and I want to achieve my dreams to become a teacher soon.

Hope in the future

Deep down in my gut, I really hope this pandemic Covid-19 will end soon or even though it will become endemic, I just want my normal life back to go to the university and do all the thingy that I've left behind for 2 years such as hangout with all the classmates even the new classmates, spend midnight together, release stress together and many more. But, the most thing is I want to attend a face-to-face class back! So that's all for a feeling storm session about my online learning that I had latency for about 2 years. And also thank you for always supporting me, wait for my next blog. So, that's all from me for this topic. I hope you enjoy this blog. Keep smiling, stay positive, and Hidup Kena Chill. Bye!
